Valerie Areaux, M.S., LMFT

Originally from Colorado, Valerie Areaux, MS, LMFT holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University and a Master of Science degree in Family Studies from the University of Kentucky, completing her clinical internship in Marriage and Family Therapy in 1994. She is licensed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky as a marriage and family therapist, certified as a sex therapist and Certified by the Kentucky Court of Justice as both a general civil and a family mediator.

Having earned her Rank 1 certification in Guidance and Counseling (K-12) from Eastern Kentucky University, she served as the Early Childhood Specialist for Jessamine County schools from 2000-2011 and a clinical member of Feinberg & Associates in Lexington from 2005-2010.

Valerie completed her certificate in sex therapy through the Florida Post-Graduate Sex Therapy Training Institute in Palm Beach, Florida training under the late Dr. Susan Lee, who was a student herself of the great Helen Singer-Kaplan. More than half of Valerie's psychotherapy practice centers around her work with couples and adult individuals, providing treatment for diverse relationship issues and sexual dysfunctions. She has published articles featured in MD Update regarding Integrating Sexual Therapy with Sexual Medicine and Sexuality and Aging.

Valerie is a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy, American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists and the Kentucky Association for Marriage & Family Therapy.

Valerie, along with her husband Andy, are the parents of four sons. They own and operate Bluegrass Family Therapy, LLC.
