Valerie Areaux, Owner of Bluegrass Family Therapy is dedicated to providing exceptional care to individuals and couples, guiding them through the challenges of life and love.
Originally from Colorado, Valerie received her Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University in 1990 and went on to earn her Master of Science in Family Studies from the University of Kentucky in 1994, having completed the clinical program in Marriage and Family Therapy. Valerie later earned her Rank 1 certification in Guidance and Counseling (K-12) from Eastern Kentucky University. In 2013, she completed her certificate in sex therapy through the Florida Post-Graduate Sex Therapy Training Institute in Palm Beach, Florida. Valerie is licensed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the State of Michigan as a Marriage and Family Therapist, certified as a clinical Sex Therapist by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists and Certified by the Kentucky Court of Justice as both a General Civil and a Family Mediator. Previously, she served as the Early Childhood Specialist for Jessamine County Schools from 2000-2011 and as a clinical member of Feinberg & Associates from 2005-2010, before opening Bluegrass Family Therapy in 2011. Services via Telehealth were expanded to Michigan residents in 2020.
Valerie is a member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) and a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marital and Family Therapists (AAMFT). She has published articles featured in MD Update regarding Integrating Sexual Therapy with Sexual Medicine and Sexuality and Aging. Valerie also has a special interest in advocating for and providing mental health services for first responders.
